Western Burrowing OwlBurrowing Owl Conservation Network has been operating and working as a volunteer group for the preservation of burrowing owls since 2008.

Earth Island Institute has made a commitment to the preservation of burrowing owls in the San Francisco Bay Area, California and North America by approving a species-specific conservation project during its summer program review cycle. On July 24, 2010, the Board of Directors adopted the Burrowing Owl Conservation Network under Earth Island Institute’s Project Support Program and they are now providing sponsorship to our organization and bolstering much needed support for this imperiled raptor.

Earth Island Institute is headquartered in Berkeley, provides fiscal sponsorship, resources, training, technical assistance, and peer relationships to conservationists looking for an organizational home and institutional leverage for their work. The goals of Earth Island are to strengthen the capacity of each project to effectively address environmental issues, create synergy between activists working on similar topics, and allow project directors to focus their energy on their campaigns and programs.

Since 1982, Earth Island Institute has been a hub for grassroots campaigns dedicated to conserving, preserving, and restoring ecosystems, and educating individuals on the importance of maintaining biodiversity. Since its founding, they have provided fiscal sponsorship to more than 100 projects around the globe.

As a project under Earth Island Institute, the Burrowing Owl Conservation Network receives 501 (c)(3) status (Tax Identification Number 94-2889684).
